Animal profile
Saccoglossus kowalevskii
Saccoglossus kowalevskii is a small burrowing hemichordate with an acorn-shaped proboscis, a collar and a long trunk. It swallows sediment and leaves coiled casts at the surface. It is used as a laboratory model for the evolutionary origin of chordate body plans.
