Field profile

Antlions are lacewing relatives whose adults resemble slender, weak-flying damselflies with clubbed antennae. The larvae are squat, bristled and armed with long curved jaws. Many, though not all, build conical pit traps in fine dry sand and wait buried at the bottom.
