Bonobo

Field profile

The bonobo is the chimpanzee's closest relative and shares roughly the same body plan with a slimmer build, longer legs and a darker face. It lives in large, loosely structured parties in which coalitions of females hold considerable influence. Its entire wild range lies inside one country.
