Brandt's Bat

Field profile

Brandt's bat is a small European Myotis weighing about 4 to 8 grams, closely similar to the whiskered bat and separated from it only in the mid-twentieth century. It hunts small insects in and around woodland and hibernates in cool humid underground sites. One banded individual set the record for mammalian longevity relative to body size.
