The brown-throated three-toed sloth is the most widespread sloth, hanging beneath branches and feeding almost entirely on leaves. It moves slowly, digests slowly, and hosts algae, moths and other organisms in its grooved hair. It descends to the forest floor to defecate about once every eight days.
