Animal profile
Calanus finmarchicus
Calanus finmarchicus is a planktonic copepod a few millimetres long that dominates zooplankton biomass across much of the North Atlantic. Its lipid-rich body makes it the principal food of North Atlantic right whales, herring and many larval fish. It spends much of the year dormant in deep water.
