Animal profile
Dasyprocta punctata
The Central American agouti is a diurnal, long-legged caviomorph rodent of the forest floor. It sits back on its haunches to handle food with its forepaws and buries surplus seeds in scattered single caches. Its seed handling makes it one of the most important large-seed dispersers in Neotropical forest.
