Mnemiopsis leidyi is a lobed ctenophore roughly the size of a plum, transparent and iridescent in daylight. It feeds on zooplankton, fish eggs and larvae. Introduced to the Black Sea in the 1980s, it became one of the most consequential marine invasions on record.
