The common brushtail possum is a cat-sized nocturnal marsupial with large ears, a bushy prehensile tail and a versatile diet. It is one of the most adaptable native mammals in Australia and lives readily in roof cavities and suburbs. In New Zealand, where it was introduced for fur, it is a major conservation pest.
