Domestic Water Buffalo

The domestic water buffalo comes in two distinct types: the river buffalo of South Asia and the Mediterranean, kept mainly for milk, and the swamp buffalo of South-East Asia, kept mainly for draught. The two differ in chromosome number and horn shape. Water buffalo supply a substantial share of the world's milk, most of it outside the industrial dairy sector.
