Dugong grazing changes the seagrass it eats

A dugong ploughs a furrow through the seabed, taking whole plants including rhizomes and leaving visible feeding trails. Repeated grazing shifts meadows toward faster-growing, more nutritious pioneer seagrass species, a pattern sometimes called cultivation grazing.
