Field profile

The eastern green mamba is a slender, vivid green tree snake of Africa's eastern coastal forests. It spends nearly its whole life above ground, hunting birds, eggs and small mammals in the canopy. Adults typically reach around two metres.

Eastern Green Mamba

The green mamba almost never comes down

Unlike its black relative, the eastern green mamba is strongly arboreal. It hunts, rests, mates and sheds among branches, and its brilliant green body against sunlit leaves makes it far harder to see than the colour suggests.
