Agrilus planipennis
The emerald ash borer is a small metallic green jewel beetle whose larvae feed in the phloem of ash trees. In its native range it attacks mainly stressed trees; in North America it kills healthy ones. It was identified near Detroit in 2002 and has since caused the death of hundreds of millions of ash trees.
