Animal profile
Hemiscyllium ocellatum
The epaulette shark is a small, slender carpet shark under a metre long, named for the large dark spot behind each pectoral fin. It lives on reef flats that are cut off at low tide, and uses its paddle-like fins to clamber over coral. It hunts worms and crustaceans in the shallows at night.
