Field profile

The false killer whale is a slender black dolphin of four to six metres with a tapering head and a distinctive elbow in the flipper. It hunts large fish and squid in deep water and often shares prey between group members. The main Hawaiian Islands population numbers only around 150 animals and is listed as endangered under United States law.
