Field profile

The fin whale is the second largest animal, reaching about 24 metres, and is built for speed with a slender body and a prominent swept-back dorsal fin. It lunge-feeds on krill and small schooling fish. It was the main target of twentieth-century whaling after blue whales became scarce.
