Field profile

The frilled lizard is a large agamid of northern Australian woodland, reaching around 85 centimetres including tail. A folded flap of skin around the neck, supported by cartilage rods linked to the jaw, can be flared into a broad disc. Threatened animals raise the frill, gape, and often run bipedally to a tree.
