Field profile

The gaur is the largest living wild bovid, with bulls standing up to about two metres at the shoulder and carrying a pronounced dorsal ridge. It is dark brown to black with white stockings on the lower legs. It browses and grazes in forest with clearings and is threatened by habitat loss and hunting.
