The grizzly is the North American inland form of the brown bear, distinguished by a pronounced shoulder hump of muscle and long front claws suited to digging. Adults range widely and eat an omnivorous diet dominated in most seasons by plants, roots and insects rather than meat. Coastal brown bears with access to salmon grow considerably larger than interior grizzlies.
