Animal profile
Pagophilus groenlandicus
The harp seal is a migratory ice-breeding seal of the North Atlantic, named for the dark harp-shaped saddle on the adult's back. It pups on unstable drift ice in late winter and undertakes long seasonal migrations. Its white-coated pups are among the most recognisable images in wildlife.
