The honey badger, or ratel, is a medium-sized mustelid with a reputation out of proportion to its size. It has loose, thick skin, powerful digging claws and a broad omnivorous diet that includes snakes, rodents, insects and honeycomb. Its wide range spans Africa and southwestern Asia.
