The Iberian ribbed newt is a large newt reaching about 30 centimetres, drab brown with a row of orange-tinted warts along each flank. It is largely aquatic and tolerates poor-quality water including farm troughs and cisterns. It is a standard laboratory amphibian and has been flown on space missions.
