Japanese Fire-bellied Newt

The Japanese fire-bellied newt is a small newt around 8 to 13 centimetres long, dark above with a red or orange belly patterned in black. It is largely aquatic and common in paddy landscapes and hill ponds. Populations vary regionally in colour, size and genetics.
