Rhynochetos jubatus
The kagu is a pale grey, near-flightless bird endemic to the forests of New Caledonia, related to rails and sunbitterns rather than herons despite its heron-like build. It forages on the forest floor for invertebrates, communicates with a distinctive barking call, and is New Caledonia's national bird.
