The lesser Egyptian jerboa is a small nocturnal desert rodent that moves on greatly elongated hind legs with a long tufted tail for balance. It digs burrows that it plugs against heat, and obtains most of its water from seeds and vegetation. Its enlarged auditory bullae give acute low-frequency hearing.
