Animal profile
Phoeniconaias minor
The lesser flamingo is the smallest flamingo species and the most numerous, gathering in flocks that can number over a million on East African soda lakes. It has a dark red bill and deeper pink plumage than the greater flamingo. It feeds almost exclusively on cyanobacteria filtered from water too caustic for most animals.
