Mexican Redknee Tarantula

Field profile

A docile burrowing tarantula with orange-red bands on the leg joints, familiar from films and from decades of the pet trade. Females may live for well over twenty years. Heavy collection in the twentieth century drove international trade controls on the whole genus.
