Field profile

The moa were nine species of flightless birds endemic to New Zealand, ranging from turkey-sized to the giant moa of the genus Dinornis, whose females stood over three metres with the neck extended. They were browsers of forest and shrubland. All species disappeared within roughly two centuries of Polynesian settlement.
