Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa
The mole cricket is a heavy-bodied burrowing insect with broad shovel-like forelegs and a velvety brown covering. It tunnels through moist soil, feeding on roots and soil invertebrates. Males sing from a specially shaped burrow, producing a churr audible far across open ground.
