Animal profile
Glossophaga soricina
Pallas's long-tongued bat is a small nectar specialist with an elongated snout and a tongue tipped with hair-like papillae. It hovers at flowers, feeds also on pollen, fruit and insects, and is a key pollinator of many neotropical plants. It has among the highest mass-specific metabolic rates measured in a mammal during hovering.
