Pink salmon are the smallest and most abundant Pacific salmon. Spawning males grow a pronounced dorsal hump, giving the species its other name, humpback salmon. Almost every pink salmon lives exactly two years, which splits populations into odd-year and even-year lines that scarcely interbreed.
