Purple Frog

Field profile

A bloated purple-grey frog with a tiny head and a pointed white snout, adapted to a life spent almost entirely underground eating termites. It was described as new to science in 2003 and represents a lineage separate from all other living frogs for tens of millions of years. It surfaces for only a few days a year.
