Animal profile
Procyon lotor
The raccoon is a medium-sized omnivore with a masked face, ringed tail and extraordinarily sensitive forepaws. It thrives in cities, where it exploits human food and structures, and has established invasive populations in Germany, Japan and elsewhere. Its manipulative ability and problem-solving have made it a recurring subject in animal cognition research.
