Field profile

A flat, royal-blue surgeonfish with a black palette-shaped marking and a yellow tail, growing to about thirty centimetres. Adults graze algae on exposed reef fronts and shelter in coral branches when threatened. It is one of the most heavily traded marine aquarium fish in the world.
