Saw-scaled Viper

Field profile

The saw-scaled viper is a small, irritable viper rarely much over half a metre long, patterned in sandy browns with pale zigzag flank markings. It hunts arthropods, lizards and small rodents at night in dry country. Despite its size it is a leading cause of snakebite death.
