Smooth Snake

The smooth snake is a slender grey or brown European snake with unkeeled scales, named for the resulting smooth feel. It eats mainly lizards, which it holds in its coils rather than fully constricting. In Britain it is the rarest native snake and confined to a handful of heathland sites.
