Field profile

The snow leopard is a solitary cat of steep, broken high country, where it hunts wild sheep and goats among cliffs. Its thick pale coat, short muzzle and enlarged nasal cavity suit cold, thin air. Its main prey and its own habitat overlap heavily with pastoral livestock grazing.
