Stoplight Parrotfish

Field profile

A Caribbean parrotfish reaching about sixty centimetres, with a drab red and grey initial phase and a green terminal phase marked by a yellow spot near the gill. It scrapes algae and coral rock. At night it withdraws into a crevice to sleep.
