Strawberry Poison Dart Frog

Field profile

A thumbnail-sized frog, usually red with dark blue or black legs, though dozens of colour forms exist across Panama's Bocas del Toro islands. Females carry newly hatched tadpoles one at a time up into water-filled plant axils. The species is chemically defended but not dangerous to handle briefly.
