The Sunda pangolin is a solitary, mostly nocturnal, scale-covered mammal that feeds almost exclusively on ants and termites, breaking into nests with powerful clawed forelimbs. It curls into a tight ball when threatened, using its overlapping keratin scales as armour. It is among the most heavily trafficked wild mammals globally, hunted for its scales and meat.
