Sunflower Sea Star

Field profile

One of the largest sea stars in the world, reaching about a metre across with up to twenty-four arms. It is a fast-moving predator of urchins, snails and other invertebrates. Its population collapsed across most of its range after a disease outbreak beginning in 2013.
