Two-toed Amphiuma

The two-toed amphiuma is a heavy, eel-shaped aquatic salamander that can exceed a metre in length, making it among the longest salamanders in North America. Its four legs are so reduced that they are easily missed. It is nocturnal, largely hidden in mud and vegetation, and capable of a painful bite.
