Aix sponsa
The wood duck is a medium-sized North American perching duck with a crested, iridescent head and red eye in the male. It feeds on acorns, seeds and invertebrates in wooded wetlands and nests in tree cavities. Near-collapse in the early twentieth century was followed by one of the more successful recoveries in North American waterfowl management.
