Wood Frog

Field profile

A medium-sized brown frog with a distinctive dark mask through the eye. It has the widest northern distribution of any North American amphibian, reaching well above the Arctic Circle. Breeding is explosive, with whole populations gathering at vernal pools for a few days in early spring.
